updating skills..
I have been on an application bender to find software that beats the Maya particles system/dynamics in the water simulation arena, and I can tell you it was not hard, the search began when Maya decided it preferred to crash than cache the work I had done to simulate underwater effects, overall very disappointing compared to something like Realflow or even some of the after effects plugins like Trapcode.
Realflow even feels fun to work with its very easy to get into the scene without the crude and regimented scripting needed for Maya when other programs just have yes or no options, I am not shy to scripting but I like to just flip stuff on and off when doing simulations it puts me where I want to be faster, problem with maya is they develop allot of new things but seem to rarely revamp the old,
thats ok there are alternatives, and I am long overdue for updating my software knowledge in some cases maybe ten years out of date.
How so many things outside and around the main 3d apps have evolved and become artist friendly in the last ten years, now you can go on youtube and let 12 year old kids talk you through throwing water into a bucket and watch it slosh around, and it all looks great and it is as simple as a twelve year old would put it on how to do it yourself.
Finding time between work to learn this stuff in the past has been a challenge but with this new stuff so far has been nothing but fun. and I am surprised by how much can be accomplish on a mid range laptop computer that I am using now as well, there is less of the high brow tech going on and more of a tool designed to empower the user or team for that matter and less discovering what the app cannot do and trying to find the middle ground.
I have a render of what I learned from nothing to the end of one days use below and still learning more with a natural desire and joy the way it should be when stuff does what its says it does out of the box.

Happy new year 2013
Been busy with life in general but still manage to get my work done behind the scenes there is allot going on.
My sister will also come to visit right at the end of this month and into Feb, so I will need to do the tour then with her.
On the work front I am going through several look development stages involving the environment, as well as getting the poster and the logo final which I am happy to say the final result is looking ok by me :D
more soon .....
